I suppose it all started when I was a kid with a disposable camera. I took one with me everywhere to document our family’s adventures. In my high school photography class, I realized I not only had a passion for photography, but an eye for it too. I attended classes and conferences to hone my skills, but experience has been my greatest teacher.
One of my favorite things to do is take day trips around the Pacific Northwest to scout out spots for photo shoots. I love to make a day of it with my husband and my sweet little boy. If we can fit in a stop at a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, that is about as perfect as a day can get. It is so much fun to photograph individuals and families in the special spots I find.
I also enjoy shooting product photography for small businesses. I love the challenge of understanding the business’s style and brand, so I can create the perfect pictures of their products. I see it as an honor to help a small business succeed.
No matter what I’m photographing, I have discovered that I am most at peace when I am focused in on shooting. The rest of the world disappears, and all that matters is capturing the beauty of what is in front of me. I think that is a huge part of why I do what I do—it gets me outside of myself.
